Fake the Foundation

I love makeup, that is no secret but what I dislike most about it is when I can feel my foundation. I want my makeup to feel light and fresh and still last all day...I guarantee you that I am not the only one. I run into so many people that do not need foundation and just don't know any better, so they are using products that they really do not need. I'm going to give you my trick on how to fake foundation! Now before I do I want you to know that there is a time and place for full coverage foundation. For example: Weddings and Photography which are on a whole other level in itself so I will go into that another day. I want to stick with the everyday, easy, basic, anyone can do it face. It is not cakey or full coverage but it still makes your skin look soft and flawless...and best of all, the products I am listing are from the drugstore! So if you like full coverage this may not be for you, but I dare you to try it!

Step 1: Find a tinted BB or CC cream that you love and that works for your skin type. I like to use Maybelline's Dream Pure BB Cream. It's an 8 in 1 BB cream with Salicylic Acid that gives just the right amount of coverage. Apply and blend all over your face and neck area..A little goes a long way so don't over do it.

Step 2: Choose a mattifying powder. I like NYX Stay matte but not flat powder, but you can use your favorite. It's not heavy or full coverage but it covers the areas that need to be covered without caking up. Swirl the powder all over the same areas you applied the cream and you will be amazed at how your skin looks!

Continue your regular blush and HAC(highlight and contour) routine and your done. That's it folks! It's really that easy!
If you want to know my step by step HAC routine (or any other beauty related questions, tips, or tricks) drop me a line and let me know if that is something you would like me to do. Also, let me know if you tried this trick and LOVED it...I'm sure you will!
I hope this helps someone and makes your makeup routine that much easier. Thanks for stopping by!

20 Beauty Mistakes you need to stop making

20 Beauty Mistakes you need to stop making.
Here is a list of what you may be doing wrong and my tips on how to fix it.

1.) Not cleaning your makeup brushes.
Just think about this one. You use your brushes daily and just like your face the brushes get oily, dirty, and full of bacteria. If you don't wash them regularly, it will cause breakouts. Another thing to keep in mind is that the bristles may be loaded with pigments from prior makeup uses and will affect your makeup application. You will not get that perfect flawless look you are trying to achieve when the colors all blend together.

2.) Putting bronzer on your whole face.
When you are bronzing, the goal is to achieve natural sun kissed skin. Applying bronzer to the temples, forehead, cheekbones, bridge of the nose, chin and décolletage area will make it look like you have been basking in the sun all day. If you want to look more tan, try using a self tanner instead of a bronzer.

3.) Matching foundation to the back of your hand.
I remember growing up and the ladies behind the makeup counters in the department stores would apply foundation to the back of my moms hand to match her color. When you really think about it, your hands do not get the same sun exposure as your face so you will most likely be left with that pesky foundation line on your face. The best way to avoid this is to apply it directly to your jawline for an exact match.

4.) Sleeping in your makeup.
Okay...this one is a no brainer. We all have those nighs when we just want to go straight to bed and PASS OUT instead of showering let alone wash our face. The problem with skipping that step is makeup settles in our pores making them larger and causes premature aging and wrinkles. Well...I have a great tip for this problem! My holy grail, cure all, beauty secret is...wait for it....Coconut Oil! Yes that's it! This stuff has hundreds of benefits for your body, inside and out. I can't go one day without using it for something. My kids even ask for it because they can see the difference it makes in our lives. Okay enough about that, I will be doing an article on all of the benefits coconut oil has. So, I just apply it on my face like a cream and simply wipe it off with a washcloth or makeup remover wipe. Why don't I just use the makeup wipe alone you ask? Do you ever use them and then in the morning you still have signs of makeup and mascara smudged around your eyes? That's not clean to me. I don't feel they can do the job alone. Using coconut oil has cut out at least 4 products from my daily beauty regimen. The stuff is amazing...trust me!

5.) Applying concealer wrong.
When we apply concealer to the dark circles under our eyes it turns one problem into another. You can still see a circle, whether it be dark or light. The key is to make it blend and disappear. Instead, try applying an upside-down triangle shape below the eye to create a more natural eye brightening effect.

6.) Applying lip liner just to the edges.
When you apply to the outer edges only you will be left with a ring around the mouth that may look like you just ate some chocolate cake and forgot to wipe your mouth. Even if you go over the liner with lipstick, when it wears off you will still be left with that ring. Instead line and fill the entire lip in completely with liner, then apply your lipstick for a worry free long lasting wear.

7.) Wearing waterproof mascara every day.
Waterproof mascara is very dry and damaging to our eyelashes and if worn daily will cause them to break off and fall out. Now, if you are an emotional individual like I am (I cry at movies and yes some commercials too), you can apply it to the bottom lashes only. The best way to remove this without damage is to use Coconut Oil (yes I am mentioning this again) and a clean spooly/mascara wand and comb it through your lashes.

8.) Skipping base coat.
If you're a DIYer like me, I do not pay to have my nails done. If you do decide to do it yourself don't forget the base coat. This step is very important in keeping your polish durable and vibrant longer. A favorite of mine is called Rubberized from OPI.

9.) Using the wrong blush formula.
Okay...so you have 2 formulas you can use, cream or powder. (well 3 if you also include cheek/lip stains)  It depends on your skin type on which one you should use. With a cream blush you will get a more natural look and a powder blush is long lasting. Whenever I use a cream blush, I will always use a very light application of powder blush over top to "seal" it in. If you use a cream blush and have oily skin or are going to be outside in the summer heat, it will most likely slide right off your face by the end of the day, but if you have dry skin and you use a powder blush, it can draw attention to wrinkles or dry patches on your face. So think about these rules next time you apply your blush.

10.) Wearing too much foundation.
The only reason I feel anyone should use foundation is if they have skin discoloration or really bad acne blemishes. Even then I fully believe they should invest in an Airbrush Makeup machine to keep the skin light and natural looking. When you "cover up" with foundation it tends to look cakey and un natural. Instead, if you must use foundation, focus on the trouble areas only! These areas are normally in the T-zone, under the eyes, and around the nose! Leaving the rest of the face clean. Usually these areas are red from hormones and instead of using foundation try using a BB or CC cream and set it with a powder for a lighter more natural look.

11.) Not using primer with glitter eye shadow.
Just like you face, your eyelids need a primer before you apply a shadow so that it lasts all day, but especially when useing a glitter shadow. Glitter causes fallout (that's when glitter falls all over your face after applying) and you end up looking like a sparkly mess. The primer will act as an "adhesive" keeping the glitter in place. You can easily remove any glitter that falls on the face with a peice of scotch tape. Using a primer will not only make the lid smooth for application, it will cover up any discoloration that we may see from the veins showing through our delicate skin on the eyes. If you have oily lids, it is best to use a lid primer before applying any eye shadow, or it will end up creasing throuout the day.

12.) Not setting your concealer.
So, a rule for me when applying makeup on myself or a client is, when I am using a cream product, I always set it with a powder. When using concealer, it can shift and cause the makeup to move and end up  revealing the dark circles or blemishes that you tried so hard to hide. It is best to use a translucent powder and lightly tap it over your concealer. Do not use a back and forth swipe motion or you will end up removing the product.

13.) Curling your lashes with mascara on.
I learned this one the hard way as a teenager. If you curl them after you apply mascara, your lashes can stick to the curler and yank them out. And boy does it hurt! It also does not curl it nicely but will leave more of a crease in your lashes instead of a upward swoop curl. Always curl your lashes before you apply mascara. Use a "pumping" motion for about 20-30 seconds when curling them to get the best result.

14.) Applying your blush correctly.
To avoid looking like a clown, apply blush to the apples of the cheeks and along the cheekbones going up toward your temples. To find the apples of your cheeks, smile, and the round area that "pops up" on either side of your nose is know as the "Apples". Make sure you are blending it in seamlessly for the most natural look.

15.) Adding nail polish remover to thin out old lacquers.
I've always wondered why salon manicures don't last as long as they use to. I noticed that they started adding remover to the polish and now it all makes total since! The chemicals break down the polish and makes it unusable. Instead use a polish thinner to help revive old thick polish.

16.) Applying makeup in the wrong lighting.
It is best to do your makeup in a very well lit area. Preferably using natural sun light. Not everyone wants to go outside and do their makeup in the morning so the next best thing is a nice bright light that you can see your entire face (without shadows) while blending in your makeup. This will guarantee a better application. If you do it in a dark or dim lighting, once you go out into a well lit or sunny area you will see all of the little mistakes that you have made. Hopefully you will notice these errors before anyone else will.

17.) Keeping makeup for too long.
Just the smell of old makeup alone is enought to tell you it's time to throw it away but if you check the bottom of your product it will usually tell you the amount of time it is good for. These "experation dates" vary from months to years depending on what it is. Now, this being said, it won't hurt if you go past this time a little, but if your still using makeup from 10 years ago, you should probably think about an update...haha.

18.) Applying the wrong shade of concealer.
Lately we've seen a lot of women applying a much lighter concealer under the eyes, along the T-Zone etc. The reason for this is for contouring. I believe contouring is a great thing, but only if you are going to be photographed, other wise you start looking like a clown. (which is completely fine if that's the look your going for) But most women want a natural contour look and have never been properly taught the right ways to make it look that way. (I will be posting about contouring in the future as well.) Now that I have clerifyed the difference, you want to choose a concealer that matches your skin exactly just like you would you foundation so that you are hiding and not drawing attention to the areas you are trying to cover.

19.) Pumping the brush in an almost empty mascara.
We may think we are getting every last bit of our favorite mascara but we are actually pumping air into the tube, drying out what product we have left. This causes the lashes to look dry and clumpy, just like the product we are applying to them. If the mascara still has enough in the tube but it's starting to dry out, just add a few drops of visine to the tube and stir it around with the wand. This will thin it out just enough to be back to normal.

20.) Using the wrong primer for your foundation formula.
Primers have become very popular in the past couple of years and it is very important for some people to use them to create a smooth canvas to work with. With that being said, if you are going to use a primer, make sure you are useing the same ingredients that are in your foundation. If you are using a water-based foundation, make sure the primer is water-based. This also applies to a silicone-based primer and foundation as well. Mixing water and silicone based products will cause them to act against each other and make little balls of silicone on your face. (I learned this from experience also. It was not a pretty sight.)

I want to thank you for stopping by and reading my advice on this topic and I really hope my tips have helped you understand the mistakes that we all have made. I just wish someone was there to teach me before I had to find out on my own. ;p
Feel free to leave me any questions, comments, or even some of your own tips that have helped you.

Enjoy your weekend!

Good Morning...It's FRIDAY! Wow,what a week...trying to juggle my busy work days with my homelife has really taken a toll on me. I am ready to max and relax at home and do some fun projects that will inspire me. I will finally have the time because my husband and I are having a kid free weekend! What on earth are we going to do with ourselves??? I can think of one thing that I have wanted to do for a while, make DIY Lip Scrub and Lip balm. I have broken lip sticks that I don't want to throw because I love the colors and now I can reuse them and put them to good use. I am obsessed with coconut oil so that is what I will be using for a perfect base for the balm. I will be sure to take pictures and list instructions on how I do it so that you can try as well. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will talk to you in my next post!
